Course on inventory and verification of greenhouse gas emissions: International Standard ISO 14064

Specialists from the State Enterprise "DPK MASMA" successfully completed a week-long course covering the key aspects of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions accounting, monitoring, reporting, and verification. The training was organized with the support of BUREAU VERITAS.

Participants included:

  • Oleg Yaroshenko, Head of the State Enterprise "DPK MASMA"

  • Oleg Pukhtiy, Head of the Decarbonization and Renewable Alternative Fuels Department

  • Viktor Taranchenko, Lead Engineer of the Compliance Assessment Department

The training program consisted of several core modules, including:

  • Climate change and the carbon cycle

  • National and international challenges in achieving climate neutrality

  • Introduction to international standards:

    • ISO 14064-1: Specifications and guidance for organizations regarding the quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals

    • ISO 14064-2: Specifications and guidance for project-level accounting, monitoring, and reporting of GHG emission reductions or removal enhancements

    • ISO 14064-3: Verification and validation of GHG accounting

ISO 14064-1 and ISO 14064-2 define principles and requirements for the accounting and reporting of GHG emissions and removals at the organizational and project levels, covering aspects such as design, management, reporting, and verification.

ISO 14064-3 serves as the foundation for verifying CO₂ emissions accounting. Following verification of compliance, DQS uses this standard as the basis for certifying the proper implementation of emissions balancing requirements. It is important for companies and organizations to be able to apply all three standards to ensure robust and transparent emissions accounting.
