Technical requirements and standards for bioethanol and blended gasoline in Ukraine

The technical regulation regarding requirements for automotive gasoline, diesel fuel, marine fuels, and boiler fuels mandates the addition of ethanol to gasoline in amounts of up to 10%. In Ukraine, national standards establish the technical requirements for bioethanol and blended gasoline, specifically through the following documents:

  • DSTU 7687:2015 "Automotive Gasolines Euro. Technical Conditions" — This standard outlines the requirements for ethanol-containing gasolines (E5, E7, E10) and serves as the primary standard for Ukrainian ethanol-blended gasolines.

  • DSTU 7166:2010 "Bioethanol. Technical Conditions" — Defines the technical requirements for bioethanol.

  • DSTU EN 15376:2015 "Automotive Fuels. Ethanol as a Component of Gasoline. Requirements and Test Methods" — A European standard adopted in Ukraine for fuel ethanol.

  • DSTU 4311:2004 "System for the Development and Supply of Products to Production. Petroleum Refining and Petrochemical Products. Basic Provisions" — The main standard guiding petroleum product manufacturers.

  • DSTU 8696:2016 "Alternative Fuel for Gasoline Engines. Technical Conditions" — Regulates the requirements for alternative fuels used in gasoline engines.

  • DSTU 8697:2016 "Oxygenate Additive Complex" — Defines requirements for stabilizing additives used when blending bioethanol into fuel.

Fuel blending technical regulations are internal documents developed by each manufacturer in accordance with DSTU 4311:2004. These quality management standards are based on international quality systems and harmonized with European standards.

Alternative motor fuels produced in compliance with these requirements are safe for use in gasoline internal combustion engines.
